Ten years, it starts from the application date.
Trademark protection must be renewed every ten years. A trademark can be renewed during the last year of its protection period, and up to six months after the expiration of such protection.
Yes, trademarks may be transferred (including usufruct) or mortgaged, both inside and outside Libya.
Registration gives you exclusive ownership of a trademark within Libya, including:
- the right to benefit from products and services for which the brand was registered;
- and the right to take all measures to protect the trademark.
The Trademark Office handles the registration of trademarks in Libya. Libya has adopted the classification of goods and services provided in the Nice Agreement for the purpose of trademark registration.
Please note that no protection is given in Libya for trademarks related to alcoholic beverages (specified in Classes 32 – 33) and pork products (defined in Class 29).

Please provide us with a copy of:
- your Trade Licence/Commercial Registration Certificate (for corporate entities) or National Identity Card/Passport (for physical persons);*
- a Power of Attorney authorising us to act on your behalf;*
- the trademark and logo (translated into Arabic); and
- any related documentation.
* These documents must be legalised by the Libyan Consulate in your country.
A rejected application can be appealed to a select committee appointed for this purpose within thirty days of the date of receiving the official notification of rejection.
We charge a fixed fee per trademark registration of €300.*
This fee covers:
- Examination.
- Registration.
- Publication.
- Administrative and governmental fees and taxes.
*For each additional trademark registration, we charge a fixed fee of €150.
To renew an expiring trademark, you need to provide us with your Trade Licence/Commercial Registration Certificate (for corporate entities) or National Identity Card/Passport (for physical persons); and a Power of Attorney. Each of these documents must be legalized by the Libyan Consulate in your country.
We charge a fixed fee of €300 to renew an expiring Trademark. This fee covers:
- Filing the renewal application.
- Administrative and governmental fees and taxes.
- Courier fees (for return only).
