What is a Patent?
A patent grants to its owner an exclusive right to exploit, sell, and use an invention for a specific period. In Libya, patents are valid for 15 years from the date of filing the patent application, provided that payment of all prescribed annual fees is kept current.
How do I register a Patent in Libya?
Please provide us with a copy of:
your Trade Licence/Commercial Registration Certificate (for corporate entities) or National Identity Card/Passport (for physical persons)*
a Power of Attorney authorising us to act on your behalf*
the Patent Description (translated into Arabic).
* These documents must be legalised by the Libyan Consulate in your country.
What does it cost to register a Patent in Libya?
We charge a fixed fee per patent registration of €500.*
This fee covers:
- Administrative fees
- Document translation
- Courier fees (for return only).
*For each additional patent registration, we charge a fixed fee of €250.
Please provide us with the relevant patent number and expiration date to renew an expiring patent, plus a Power of Attorney legalised by the Libyan Consulate in your country.
We charge a fixed fee of €500 to renew an expiring Patent.
